Max Baer Jr.

Max Baer Jr. (born August 4, 1937) is an American actor, screenwriter, producer, and director. He is best known for playing the role of Jethro Bodine, a naive but lovable hillbilly, on the CBS sitcom The Beverly Hillbillies, which aired from 1962 to 1971.

Before his acting career, Baer attended Santa Clara University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in business administration and a minor in philosophy. He also served in the U.S. Army. His father was the famous boxing champion Max Baer and his uncle was Buddy Baer, also a boxer and actor.

After The Beverly Hillbillies, Baer attempted to branch out into other roles but found himself typecast as Jethro. He then focused on writing, producing, and directing films. Notably, he wrote, produced, and directed Macon County Line (1974), a low-budget action film that became a major box office success. He followed this up with Ode to Billy Joe (1976), which he also directed and produced.

In later years, Baer pursued various business ventures, including attempts to license the "Jethro Bodine" name for casinos and restaurants.
